How to wear

  • How to wear: the cape blazer

Over the past year Anna Wintour has given a new lease of life to the off the shoulder coat look – paving the way for the rise of the ‘cape’. From on the catwalk at Ralph Lauren, to on the shoulders of style queen Miroslava Duma; the cape has become the staple item of the season and the trend is very much here to stay!

Capes are all about being bold - transforming the most simple of outfits into a real head turning ensemble. Not to mention it is a great way to layer up in the temperamental British weather!

Lydia Rose Bright is a super fan of our capes, seen recently in the Khaki Collarless Cape Coat. Partnered with a zip front LBD and stiletto heels, the TOWIE star was effortlessly elegant ahead of her night out in Camden. The khaki cape oozes sophistication, whilst tending to the need for practicality with its cut out arms for an uber tailored aesthetic.

Lydia previously rocked the androgynous look on ITV This Morning in our Navy Collarless Cape Blazer, matching Navy Crossover D-Ring Peg Leg Trousers and a crisp white shirt. We also spotted Miss Bright wowing in the Black & White Distorted Stripe Collarless Cape Blazer and Black & White Distorted Stripe Print Wide Leg Culottes, teamed with a red lip and super sleek locks.

Our Black & White Distorted Stripe Collarless Cape Blazer is a perfect mix of sass and class, so there is no wonder Denise Van Outen also opted for the same unstoppable matching duo at the 50 Shades of Grey premiere last month.

Katie Price showcased her love for the cape looking ever so chic alongside Lady Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at the Cheltenham Races in our Navy Collarless Cape Blazer, proving you can still look totally trendy in a cover up designed for cooler temperatures. Michelle Keegan strutted her way to stylishness in our Black Collarless Cape Blazer in a recent all black everything outfit. Jessica Wright also made a statement in our stunning Stone Collarless Cape Blazer and Stone Fold Detail Tailored Shorts combo.

A major plus for the cape is its versatility. Paired with tailored pants, shorts or culottes it can be dressed up with a pair of heels for a smart evening look, or dressed down with some super cool slides for a mid day lunch date. A sleek leather tote or a cute fluffy clutch is also a perfect way to add your own personality to the mix!

Whether you are looking to up your outfit sophistication, or are daring to bare a little more skin as Spring slowly begins to creep in – the Lavish Alice cape is perfect for you! Fix up, look sharp today and grab this season’s must have item on our dedicated Cape section.

What to wear for autumn/winter 2014.

We’ve entered that transitional period of ‘no longer summer, yet not quite winter’ and with it comes a spell of awkward days to try and dress appropriately for. Unpredictable rain showers and a change in temperature on a seemingly hourly basis is just another factor to be taken into consideration when choosing your outfit of a morning. To help you along and take the frustration out of staring blankly at an increasingly uninspiring and impractical wardrobe, we at Lavish Alice have put together some on-trend outfits with advice on how to wear them at this time of year.

What to wear for autumn/winter 2014

The Mustard Roll Neck Cut-Out Detail Cropped Sweater is the perfect piece for weather that’s neither warm nor particularly cold. The cotton fabric and looser fit is comfortably cool yet the roll neck detail will keep you snug, and you can always wear this over a cami or t-shirt for extra warmth. Another versatile item is the Black and Cream Contrast Tapered Leg Jumpsuit, as you know jumpsuits are still at the top of the most wanted list and they look just as good dressed down as they do dressed up. Team with a long red cardigan and some heeled ankle boots for an instant autumnal look.

A favourite at Lavish Alice is the Grey & Black Structured Long Sleeve Collar Cuff Dress, an ideal piece for winter in a colour that you cannot go wrong with. Fitted to the waist with a skater skirt bottom, this is undeniably smart yet feminine. Wear with a pair of fashion forward thigh boots and a statement necklace. Possibly the most important part of your wardrobe for the shift in weather is a go-to jacket. Our Black Collarless Cape Blazer is the ultimate style to smarten up an evening look, whilst the White and Grey Grid Print Duster Coat will see you through the crisp days of fall.

Winter need not be drab, take a look at our New In for even more inspiration.

The figure hugging bodycon dress has been the go-to style for a night out for quite some time now; it’s sexy, daring and completely shows off the female shape. What’s not to love? But did you know that we have the early 90’s to thank for this popular trend? A lot of the bodycon styles we see in our favourite high street stores today are very similar to those worn by celebrities on the red carpet during that decade. French fashion house Herve Leger was credited with popularising the bodycon trend with the invention of the Bandage Dress (you all know what this is girls!) it was created with the intention of moulding to the wearer’s figure. In today’s fashion, wearing a bodycon dress is a bold statement of body confidence. Contrary to what you might think a lot of different shapes and sizes can pull this style off.

How to wear a bodycon dress

Those of you who have a slim athletic figure and no exaggerated curves will benefit from choosing a bodycon dress that has volume to the shoulders. Try dresses that have a slightly padded or embellished detail on the shoulders. A high neckline will give the illusion of a larger chest, opt for a shorter style to show off your amazing long. Bodycon styles can be extremely flattering for you pear shaped ladies. Pear shape means your hip measurement is generally larger than both your waist and chest measurements, meaning you will most likely have a one very juicy butt! (Kimmy K anyone?!) Bodycon styles are ideal for pears as they don’t add any unnecessary bulk to your bum! If you’re not confident enough to go for a full bodycon dress, a bodycon skirt can be teamed with a loose blouse to balance out your figure and still make you look seriously sexy.

The Hourglass; the body shape every woman wishes for! If you are lucky enough to be the proud owner of an hourglass shape this means that your bust and hip measurements are almost exactly the same whilst your waist is considerably smaller. Bodycon dresses are the most flattering on this shape as they will highlight all of your gorgeous curves and make you look undeniably feminine. They won’t add any extra bulk to your figure and will show off that tiny waist!
